Spent quite a lot of time (and euros) looking for and through old photo albums when we were Germany this month . This album from Munich was particularly interesting.. It begins in 1926 – right in the middle of the Weimar Republic and ends in 1932 when the Nazis were gaining strength .. The early photos of the two young women ( or boy dressed as a girl ? ) suggest an open and fluid attitude to sexuality – to some extent mirroring today’s ‘non binary gender identity’. However , and I suppose this must be common in many of these 1930’s albums, the last page takes a darker and more sinister turn as we find images of the album’s owners , arms outstretched, in the middle of a 1932 rally for Hitler and Goering. The contrast between rebellious open minded gender fluidity and future mass indoctrination is striking .
Just back from a trip to Budapest, Munich and Berlin . While in Munich we visited Obersee and Königsee. One of the most spectacular and beautiful places I’ve ever seen.
